Today we want to share some words from Ingo, who has volunteered twice with OHF:
“I arrived on Lesvos in August this year, and I stayed for three months until October. This was a bit different to my previous time. Firstly, I had to self-isolate for the first 14 days. I was also used to OHF being open and having up to 1,000 people per day, and being a busy place. Another thing that made me sad, and mad, was how the situation in Lesvos had deteriorated even more. During my stay was when Moria burnt down. It was an extremely chaotic and awful time, especially the lack of response from the EU.
Luckily OHF was able to open again while I was there, and I helped set up the new cyber cafe, installing software and teaching computer courses. At the end of my stay two new community volunteers were running the cyber cafe and doing a great job. My hope is to see OHF up and running after this second lockdown. I hope that the new camp will be evacuated and we see a better response from the EU. This includes timely relocation and acting quickly to prevent this from happening again.”
Thank you Ingo! See you next time.
