Meet one of our long term partners: The Lava Project!
It is a medical laundry facility which started out working with the medical actors working inside the camp, supporting them in their efforts to get rid of scabies. Currently they are washing the bedding and clothing during bed bug outbreaks at the camp as well as clothes and other items for several NGOs on the island, one of them being OHF! Every week they wash our cleaning materials as well as the laundry of our community volunteers who live in the camp. There have also been times when their volunteers supported our project and vice versa.
The Lava Project is meeting a great need for people living in RIC Lesvos. The laundry service doesn’t only mean providing people with clean and fresh smelling clothes and blankets…. It means providing at least a little bit of dignity, and contributing to the reduction of clothes and blankets being thrown away as well as helping to avoid the spread of scabies and bed bugs within the camp.
