Donations, donations, donations…

This month we would like to take a moment to say a big thank you for all your ongoing donations. One Happy Family is increasingly becoming a donations reception point and they are either distributed by us, or passed on to others for distribution.

You might imagine OHF as a packed warehouse. However, there is so much life and energy involved in the logistics of sorting, packing and distributing these donations; it is actually great fun behind the scenes!

We have received thousands and thousands of items: prams, soaps, mattresses, biscuits, rain coats, clothing, sleeping bags, shoes, vitamins, handmade blankets, smartphones, stationery, organic juice… pretty much everything!

No matter how large or small a donation, it really makes such a difference for the people receiving it here in Lesvos. It is much needed, and it also means that someone, somewhere, cares enough to make a package and send it to someone they have never even met!

One example of the great team work in the island is the donation of  8 pallets of muesli bars. They were sent to us by “Wir Packen’s an”, a German organisation from Berlin and Brandenburg. The muesli bars are stored at OHF and sorted by us, and are distributed in collaboration with other NGOs who have access to the camp. They are also being served to our few visitors who come to the medical clinic for psychological care. This is still an ongoing distribution and we are very thankful for this donation.

An extra special thank you goes to our coordinator Fifie, who has undertaken the massive task of arranging every aspect of this, along with her amazing assistant, our volunteer Mia!
